NAC Swim Club Announces Charity Gala in Aid of the Ronald McDonald House

~ Swimmers from up and down the country to swim for this worthy cause ~

Dublin, Ireland: Thursday, 27th January 2011:   The NAC Swim Club today announced that it will run a charity gala in aid of the Ronald McDonald House Ireland.  The NAC McSwim, which will take place on Sunday, 27th February at the National Aquatic Centre and which will be streamed live on the club’s website, will have many aquatic disciplines on display including a Mini Minnows Gala for novices, a short course gala for more experienced swimmers, a synchronised swimming and diving display as well as a hotly contested water polo match.  Swimmers from up and down the country will donate some of their swim fees to this very worthy cause.

The coveted Dave Malone Trophy, awarded in recognition of Ireland’s most decorated paralympic swimmer and head coach of the NAC Swim Club, will be up for grabs in the 100M freestyle event and the club will have a surprise celebrity guest on hand to award the trophy to the deserving male and female swimmer.  The event is the brainchild of NAC Swim Club, gala secretary, Michaela Caseley.

According to NAC Swim Club chair, Alec Colvin:  “This is a great occasion for all swimmers and a great opportunity for the swimming community at large to give something back.  The Ronald McDonald House is a very worthy cause and we are very hopeful that we can raise both awareness and cash so the charity can continue the great work it does.”

Since the Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) opened its 16 ensuite bedrooms in November 2004, it has provided a home away from home to in excess of 1,300 families of seriously ill children from all over the country. Located in the grounds of Our Lady’s Children’s hospital, Crumlin, Ireland’s National Children’s Hospital, the staff and volunteers at this 15,000 square feet house make every effort to ease some of the pain and trauma suffered by parents and families whilst their children are ill in hospital.

Members of the public are invited to come along to the NAC McSwim.  The event starts at 8.30 am, runs for the entire day and is free of charge to all.
