Community Outreach

Our Community Outreach programme focuses on encouraging more children to become actively involved in the sport of swimming.  Our head coach, David Malone has presented to over 2000 children in schools in the Dublin 15 area, sharing his personal story of triumph in the face of adversity.

Born with a rare defect which required the amputation of both of his legs as a young child, David shares his experiences of disability and how ambition, drive and dedication led him to achieve the ultimate in his sport – a Gold Medal at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.  David shows the children how the obstacles associated with disability can be overcome and how we can all meet life’s challenges and difficulties and still succeed.

“We truly were inspired by David and having him present in school to speak to our pupils was a great honour. I would sincerely love to have you back again in the future.” – Sinead Flanagan, principal, Scoil Mhuire, Blakestown, Dublin 15.

“The program is excellent. By using David’s sporting experiences, it reinforces many of the messages that we are trying to communicate to our young children in the classroom such as the importance of working hard towards goals and objectives. The sporting theme is also one that is close to our hearts and we have a strong ethos in the school which nurtures sporting talent and encourages children to become more involved in sporting activity, whatever that might be.” – Michael Shanley, principal at St. Patrick’s Senior National School in Corduff.
